A Dream City by Can Berkol
Time Travel
(I thought about this after reading this article.)
Is it possible to travel in time? I am not sure. At least that is improbable with the current human knowledge.
To my knowledge, most scientists and most futurists connect the concept of time travel with the concept of light. If we can travel faster than light, we can travel through time.
Is that really so? I agree that we can see what happened in the past and one day we may observe what will happen in the future. The photography whether still or animated is the evidence of that. The optics, telescopes watching the stars… We are watching what happened in the past. If we can save the past, if we can see the past; why can’t we see the future?
Though seeing the future is not what I am worried about.Whether faster than your imagination or not, the light travels through time. Even when you look at your mom there is a delay. So if you can speed up the process, you may at least see things without a delay, and that relative to your understanding - may be defined as seing the future.
Nevertheless, the light only carries imagery information. It is not the “happening,” it is just a record of the happening.
What is time really? Why do we connect it obsessively with light? Is it because we can only see things with the existence of light? Is it because we only attach the meaning of seing as a definition of time traveling? But; what if I am blind? Does that mean that I cannot travel through time if I can’t see? Do you know how time flows for the visually impaird people? Does time depend on sound for them? Then, why we haven’t crossed the border of time yet? Is it because there are no blind jet pilots? What if I am both blind and deaf? Am I timeless then?
Seeing is something; shifting the existence within time is something else. I don’t think the light speed alone is the answer for time travel. Time is a relative concept where as light is an absolute concept. The first thing they teach us in elementary schools at my country is that you cannot add apples with pineapples. If that is true, shifting the gear up and moving faster than light will only bring me an absolute darkness; nothing else.
Time is something else. First of all it is not absolutely measured. What is a year to you? 365 days? Funny isn’t it? What does a day mean? Nothing, to me… Until you become an adult and until you are allowed to drink time does not move an “inch”. Once you cross 30-40 time flies by so fast, isn’t it?
I am not sure if we ever can time travel and I’m not sure if time can recursively flow so that we can continue our existence on our terms of time even if we are at an alien time interval, but; I know we can check our wedding or childhood photos and we can see and sensually re-live every second of our lives again and again.

Notes
It was a rainy day and I was playing with my broken 50mm lens. On the background there is the city where I spent all my childhood. A mini time travel within memories...
