Talking Nonesense

In one of those "talking nonesense" sessions a friend of mine asked a rhetorical question "I wonder what if we haven't invented the wheel". The speech continued into deep philosophical thoughts. Since then, I'm thinking about another question: "What if we haven't invented money?" Would we carry our cows with us to show off how important we are?... The actual question and what I'm trying to catch is: did the invention of money change our attitudes or is it the human attitude that changed the iconic meaning of the money?
