The Basilica Cistern (Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - "Sunken Palace", or Yerebatan Sarnıcı - "Sunken Cistern"), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey. The cistern, located 500 feet (150 m) west of the Hagia Sophia on the historical peninsula of Sarayburnu, was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I.

Hagia Sophia (from the Greek: Ἁγία Σοφία, "Holy Wisdom"; Latin: Sancta Sophia or Sancta Sapientia) is a former Orthodox patriarchal basilica, later a mosque and now a museum in Istanbul, Turkey. From the date of its dedication in 360 until 1453, it served as the cathedral of Constantinople, except between 1204 and 1261, when it was the cathedral of the Latin empire. The building was a mosque from 29 May 1453 until 1934, when it was secularized. It was opened as a museum on 1 February 1935.^[1] Famous in particular for its massive dome, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture and is said to have "changed the history of architecture."^[2] It was the largest cathedral in the world for nearly a thousand years, until Seville Cathedral was completed in 1520. The current building was originally constructed as a church between 532 and 537 on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian and was the third Church of the Holy Wisdom to occupy the site, the previous two having both been destroyed by rioters. It was designed by Isidore of Miletus, a physicist, and Anthemius of Tralles, a mathematician.^[3]

All the fault belongs to Prague metro! It's just magical, and every shot you take is therefore automagically moody. Of course my equipment helped a lot; because with a flash I couldn't catch the drama. Indoors lack light sources as you can imagine; so having a lens that supports f/2.8 or lower will provide lots of fun!

Lost in the Books as usual

f/22 aperture and 1/8 shutter speed is kind o an odd couple. The reason I pushed the limits of capturing perfect light with the inversed settings was to create added drama in this stormy day. Normally, you wold expect to use a faster shutter speed and a wider aperture. However, I was barely able to open my eyes in storm. To get the same effect on my camera I had to use this odd aperture / shutter couple ;)

Capturing textures are what I like to photograph most. The most unexpected symbols and messages are there on the walls of the city.

Bringing words together with the images is hard work... But it's for sure both your writing and your photos get seasoned while they wait to be matched.

Here, I'm at a cafe in Karaköy, İstanbul. The roof is a made of glass. I look up and see this frame... I get my camera and shoot the moment. Is this a great shot? I don't think so but it is a one in a million composition captured by 50% luck, 25% quick quipment, 25% hard work (carrying my camera with me all the time).

This one is maybe my 10.000th seagull photo and it is totally random with all manual settings. I think this time I managed to capture the light as I always wanted...

Even the wisest of all needs a soft touch. The photo has been taken during a patchy forecast. No rain, no snow but a great amount of clouds wandering through different altitudes, and I am on top of Dolomites. The magic is to carry your camera with you all around.

Galata; the street that I've been walking for eight years in my youth. The breeze has just been started, heavy snow fall is on the way. Clouds are dense and the alley is dark. There are two of us. The man walking in front and I. I had two reasons to choose black & white. First, the street is full of dirt and I did not want them to pop up in the frame. Second, it was dark and the path was gradually lit. I needed as limited colors as possible to catch the contrast I want.
